Giovanni Giorgio is well into his 80s now. However, this guy will forever go down in history as the creator of Electronic Dance Music (EDM). However, sadly, many people know him from the various memes that spawned after he was mentioned in a Daft Punk song.

We figured that we would shake things up a little bit on this page. Obviously, we are going to tell you all about the Giorgio memes. You probably couldn’t write an article on this guy without mentioning them. However, before we get there, we do want to tell you how the “My name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everybody calls me Giorgio” guy.

Who is Giovanni Giorgio?

Giovanni Giorgio was born amid World War II in a small Italian town. Although, of course, since this was the midst of World War II in Italy, he grew up in a heavy mixture of German and Italian. So much so to the point that many people refer to the man as Italian.

He was born Giovanni Giorgio Moroder, although, people just refer to him by the first two names.

Giovanni Giorgio was clearly born to be a music legend. Although, he never had the luxury of picking up his first instrument until the age of 15. This was a guitar. By the time he was 18, he was touring throughout Europe, showcasing his talents to a newly at peace continent.

A good chunk of his time was spent living in Germany at this point, and he even recorded a few albums. However, not all that much is known about his career at this point. This is because the major changes to his life and the rest of the music world would start happening around the late 1960s. You know, the point where music was changing completely due to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and a whole lot more.

Giovanni Giorgio Starts Using Synths

From the late 1960s all the way through to the early 1980s, Giovanni Giorgio started his transition into the world of electronic music, although it was a relatively small transition. Obviously, by the 1980s, just about everybody was adding a synth or a million into the music that they were producing.

Around this time, he started to produce a ton of music soundtracks. Perhaps the most famous of these would be the American Gigolo and The Foxes soundtracks. However, you will now start to recognize some of the songs he was producing now. The most popular are ‘Call Me by Blondie and ‘On The Radio’ by Donna Summers. Around the same time, he was also producing the Scarface soundtrack. The guy was very much in demand at this point.

You would think that because he was producing some of the greatest hits in the world of music, he would be relatively known by this point. However, he wasn’t. It wasn’t until the later 1980s, when he started to work with the likes of Freddie Mercury, Bonnie Tyler, and Adam Ant, that he started to become a big deal in the world of music. He also produced the songs on the Top Gun soundtrack (who doesn’t love Danger Zone and Take My Breath Away?`)

You could tell the sort of music that Giovanni Giorgio loved to produce by this stage. He was making epic EDM songs that were packed to the brim with synths. Every song that he was producing around this time was the sort of music that people would love to jump up and dance to.

He hasn’t even slowed down during his older years. He has collaborated with the likes of Daft Punk (more on those in a short while), Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, and a whole host of other musicians.

On top of all of this, he has won 3 Academy Awards for the music that he has produced. This includes songs from Flashdance, Top Gun, and Midnight Express. Of course, when an Academy Award for music comes along, you can be sure that there will be Grammy Awards close by.

So, this guy. He has completely changed the world of music. If you listen to songs nowadays, particularly in the EDM and pop arena, he has almost certainly had an influence there. Many people look up to him as the grandfather of EDM. How did he become a meme?

Giovanni Giorgio and Memes

The Giovanni Giorgio memes started a long time ago. Well, at least they had their foundation a good time ago. The fella gave an interview where he spoke about his music. At the start of the interview, he said the immortal words, “My Name is Giovanni Giorgio, but Everybody Calls Me Giorgio.” Now, this probably wasn’t a big deal interview at the time. It probably would have been forgotten about by most people. However, enter Daft Punk,

Daft Punk are clearly fans of Giovanni Giorgio. Giovanni is clearly a fan of Daft Punk. They have both contributed heavily to the EDM industry.

Daft Punk decided to make a song called “Giorgio by Moroder’. This track starts with a rather lengthy spoken introduction, ending with the famous words we mentioned before. Basically, the song is a tribute to everything that Giorgio has done with the industry.

The memes were born from the amazing beat that kicks in after the end of the spoken word intro. The first memes started to appear in 2018, but it wasn’t until 2020 that the memes really started to take off.

The meme can take a variety of different forms. However, it is normally going to be the spoken word intro, followed by something pretty animated on the screen. For example, we have seen clips from TV shows, Winnie the Pooh having an out-of-body experience, and a whole lot more. We will talk about some of the funniest ones in the next section.

The beat to the meme never changes. It will always be exactly the same track that Daft Punk initially laid down. It is just the animation or video that changes.

Honestly, it probably isn’t the most imaginative of memes, but it certainly has helped to keep people excited during the pandemic.

The Best Giovanni Giorgio Memes

A lot of Giovanni Giorgio memes have popped up over the last year or two. Some of them are funny, others not quite so much. We had to sort through hundreds of the things to put together this list of the funniest Giovanni Giorgio memes.

Rick Roll

Let’s be honest; Rick Rolling is probably one of the greatest memes in the world. It only made sense that it would creep into the world of Giovanni Giorgio memes too.

This video will feature Rick Astley dancing to the beat of the song. It is an incredibly obvious route for everything to go down, but, hey, it is fun.

Dancing Crab

We have always been fans of dancing crabs. They are meme-quality material. So, have a dancing crab meme featuring the Giovanni Giorgio epic. This won out of a plethora of different videos featuring animals. We suppose we couldn’t resist the cuteness.

Dancing

This is a meme that was born out of dance music. This means that there will be an absolute ton of dancing videos, many of which feature seemingly impossible dances.

This is one of our favorites. Look how the guy just moves his feet so fluidly. We promise you that this is one of those videos that will be putting a massive smile on your face!

Steven Seagal

Steven Seagal, once a world-famous action star, has become somewhat of a joke in recent years. Probably down to his massive weight gain and his rather odd rants. This made him the perfect choice for a meme!

This meme actually starts out a bit differently from the other memes so far. It actually has a Steven Seagal interview with the Giovanni words mixed over the top. It almost makes it seem as if Steven is saying the words. It then jumps into him dancing on the set of something or other.

Jesus

Alright, so it is not actually Jesus. Doesn’t even look like him. However, this is probably the closest description we had. Watch this guy run across the water to the beat of the song. Yes. We spoiled the ending for you.

Conclusion

Giovanni Giorgio is one of the most famous people in music that you have ever heard of. He will have influenced just about everything that you hear nowadays in some way. Nearly everything in the 80s was based upon his heavy synth usage. Not only is the guy going to be standing the test of time when it comes to the music that he has produced over the years, but he is also going to be standing the test of time with the memes that he has become part of. This guy is an absolute legend.
