It may not have received the greatest reviews in the world, but it is fair to say that people absolutely loved 50 Shades of Grey. If you fall into that category, then you may be looking for more movies like 50 Shades of Grey. We have 32 of them to share with you here.

These movies have been hand-selected by our team. Yes. We went through a ton of movies. They may not always have exactly the same theme as 50 Shades of Grey (e.g. bondage and what have you), but every single movie that you find on this list is seriously sexy. Some of these movies can be found on Netflix too, which we’re sure you’ll like. Let’s jump right on in, shall we?

Movies Like 50 Shades of Grey:

Secretary (2002)

James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal are the stars of Secretary. This movie comes pretty close to 50 Shades of Grey in a lot of ways too. After a mentally ill person is hired by a lawyer (called Grey!), he quickly becomes sexually aroused by how obedient she is as a secretary. There is a lot of BDSM in this black comedy, and we mean a lot of BDSM. Somewhat surprisingly, it managed to achieve a good number of positive reviews.

A Dangerous Method (2011)

A Dangerous Method is a historical movie starring Kiera Knightly. Once again, this movie features a woman who is mentally ill. In fact, her mental illness was brought upon her father sexually abusing her when she was a child. Freud works this out. Eventually, this descends into a whole lot of bondage and sex play. It is an interesting movie, and it managed to receive some damn good reviews too.

Friends with Benefits (2011)

Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis helm this movie. As you can probably guess with this cast, it is exactly going to be a hard-hitting genre. It is a rom-com about two friends who try to have a sexual relationship without feelings. We will leave it to you to try and work out how this ends up panning out (hint: it doesn’t pan out the way that they want it to)

Body Heat (1981)

Body Heat has an all-star cast, including Ted Danson, Mickey Rourke, and William Hurt. Kathleen Turner was voted one of the sexiest women alive on the back of this neo-noir movie. This movie is all about murders, sex, and an intense police investigation. This movie has been recognized as one of the greatest of all time by the American Film Institute, so we don’t want to spoil it too much for you. Just jump in and have fun with it. We promise that you will.

The Draughtsman’s Contract (1982)

This is a British comedy-drama movie set during the late 1600s in England. It is a murder mystery movie that features a whole lot of blackmail when it comes to sex. Since this is a British movie, the humor is going to be a lot different from what you may find in an American movie. However, we can promise you that it is still enjoyable and laugh-out-loud funny in some places. This is truly a great one when it comes to movies like Fifty Shades of Grey.

Nina Forever (2016)

More British comedy for you, although this one takes on a bit more of a horror vibe. After his girlfriend is killed in a car crash, the main character (Rob) starts a new relationship. It doesn’t go quite as planned, though. His now-deceased girlfriend decides to come back from the dead and mock him every time he decides to have sex.

Baby Doll (1956)

We are going all the way back to the 50s with Baby Doll but don’t worry; this black comedy is a classic. The movie features two rival gin manufacturers deciding to punish one another. This involves the seduction of a 19-year-old daughter, arson, and a whole lot more. As you can probably imagine, there was a bit of criticism thrown at the movie at the time due to the themes. However, this didn’t stop it from eventually receiving critical acclaim.

9 1/2 Weeks (1986)

Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke lead the cast in this one of the movies like 50 Shades of Grey. Originally, the movie didn’t receive a release in the US because it was deemed far too explicit. Even when it was released, it was heavily cut. This movie is incredibly similar to 50 Shades of Grey. It features a wealthy stock broker experimenting with all sorts of sexual punishment and a rather abusive relationship.

The Dreamers (2003)

Let’s be honest, Paris is one of the sexiest cities in the world. There had to be a movie on this list set there, right? In The Dreamers, an American student heads to Paris. It is here that she becomes involved in an erotic love triangle. Again, we don’t want to spoil the plot. However, this is a movie that you really do need to see if you are a fan of the artistic nature of movies. It is shot in a pretty unique way.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

Stanley Kubrick always knew how to make a fantastic film, and Eyes Wide Shut is absolutely no exception to that rule. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman lead the cast in this sexually-charged psychological mystery. There is a lot of sex in this movie, including a rather intense masked orgy by a secret cult. This was the last movie that Stanley Kubrick ever directed. He died before it was released. The movie was cut as it was deemed to be too sexually explicit for the US.

The Duke of Burgundy (2015)

This is yet another British movie. Unlike all of the other movies that we have detailed so far, The Duke of Burgundy actually focuses on a lesbian relationship. A student is hired to clean a home, and when she doesn’t do a good job, she ends up being punished. This movie is highly erotic, and it takes a deep dive into the human psyche, which is tremendous. It didn’t have much commercial success, but it was a huge hit at every film festival that it was shown at.

Shame (2011)

Turns out the British really know how to make movies like 50 Shades of Grey because we have another one here. Shame features Carey Mulligan and Michael Fassbender. This movie features a ton of sex with prostitutes, marital affairs, and the works. It is set in New York City, and, just like Fifty Shades of Grey, it features rich guys pursuing women that are a lot poorer than they are.

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover (1989)

Love graphic conflict and intense nude scenes? Of course, you do. This movie sparked a lot of complaints because of it. This movie is based on an English gangster currently living in Paris. This is more of a movie that features mob work, with a lot of sex spliced in for more effect. Oh, and if you are not a huge fan of dead bodies being cooked, you will probably want to give this movie a skip.

Lust, Caution (2007)

We have a Chinese erotic movie direct by Ang Lee here. It is a period piece set at a time when the Imperial Japanese Army had control of certain parts of China. We won’t go through the story here because the plot is convoluted by amazing. What we will tell you, however, is that the sex scenes that you see featured in Lust, Caution are unsimulated. This means that people really are having sex on camera. It is basically porn.

Belle de Jour (1967)

This movie features a woman that heads out as a high-class prostitute while her husband is at work. As you can probably imagine, her husband isn’t actually aware of how she is bringing in the cash. This is actually one of the highest-rated movies so far on this list, having nearly perfect reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It is quite an old movie now, but it is one that truly is part of cinematic history.

365 Days (2020)

There aren’t enough Polish erotic movies on this list, so let’s shake things up a little bit. We are sure that there aren’t that many of you that can resist a good Eastern European sex story, after all. You can check it out on Netflix if you want. They gained global distribution rights. It isn’t exactly the best-reviewed movie in the world, but if you want a good Mafia story with intense sex scenes thrown in for good measure, then it is probably worth checking out.

La Belle Noiseuse (1991)

You don’t actually get to see any sex in this movie. It is a study of the human body. This movie features a painter who has hired a model. He wants to paint her, and over the course of several days, you watch the relationship between these two develop. It has perfect reviews on Rotton Tomatoes. The critics absolutely love it. It is a very artsy movie, so probably not great if you are looking for mile-a-minute action. For those that want something more on the erotic side? Perfect.

Lie With Me (2005)

This Canadian movie kicks things off in an interesting way. It screams “this is about sex” almost instantly. You get a woman masturbating to porn. She then decides the porn isn’t quite doing it for her, so she is off to a party where she goes to explore the power that women have over men when it comes to sex. So, this is a bit of a role reversal from 50 Shades of Grey. The sex scenes aren’t intense, but they do really help with the story.

Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989)

Sex, Lies, and Videotape didn’t have a huge amount of commercial success, but many critics loved this indie movie. Here, you will see a man going through a traumatic period in his marriage. To get over this, he starts to record various women on camera who are talking about their fantasies and sexual exploits. This movie was loved at Cannes Film Festival, and it remains a culturally significant movie when it comes to independent movies. It has even been preserved by AFI.

Original Sin (2001)

Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie helm this movie, so, right away, you know that Original Sin is going to be sexy as hell. It has two of the hottest people in the world as stars, after all. The movie is set in Cuba, and Angelina Jolie is a mail-order bride (yep, you probably wouldn’t be disappointed if she turned up on your doorstep). She apparently doesn’t look as good as her pictures, cue the development of a relationship. No seriously intense sex scenes, but a lot of erotica.

Room in Rome (2010)

This is a Spanish movie, although thankfully in English. This is another movie that follows a lesbian relationship. This relationship is tracked over the course of one night in a hotel room. This is a surprisingly fun movie to watch, and it is awesome to see the relationship between the two develop over the course of an evening (they were strangers before). There are a few laughs along the way too.

Endings, Beginnings (2019)

This is very much a teenage ‘coming of life’ story. A teenager has an idealistic idea of love, which is completely shattered when she moves in with her sister. It isn’t too long before she finds people that are attracted to her, though. Two completely different people. This movie explores the way in which she bounces between the two men, and how they each provide her with something very, very different.

Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996)

This Indian movie was actually banned in India due to the depictions of sex. It is set in 16th Century India, and it explores the idea of a Prince being attracted to somebody that would normally be well outside of the type of person that he should be attracted to. This movie isn’t just about sex; it is about an exploration of the class divide that, even today, is found in India.

In the Realm of the Senses (1976)

This joint French-Japanese production is yet another movie that features unsimulated sex scenes. As you can imagine, it was banned in many countries. This movie focuses heavily on sexual experiments between two people. The relationship gradually becomes more intense. This is a movie that you absolutely must see because, as you get towards the end of the movie, some seriously creepy stuff starts to happen.

The Night Porter (1974)

This movie probably isn’t going to be for the easily offended. As you can probably guess, this Italian movie has heavy themes of sadomasochism. You did want something that was similar to 50 Shades of Grey, after all. However, that isn’t where the intensity of the movie ends. Oh no. This is all happening against the backdrop of the Holocaust.

Stranger By the Lake (2014)

We have discussed a few movies that focus on lesbianism so far, so we are going for something different here. This features two gay men that end up getting into a relationship. An older and a younger man. This all begins on a nude beach, and it isn’t too long before their romance reaches serious levels of passion. There are a few murders thrown in for good measure too.

The Handmaiden (2016)

The Handmaiden is a South Korean erotic movie. There are a lot of intense sex scenes between the two female leads here, which caused an intense amount of controversy. However, The Handmaiden was never banned from any country (as near as we can tell), and it went on to win a plethora of awards and become commercially successful.

Call Me By Your Name (2018)

This movie may be a little bit too much for some people. It is another ‘coming of age’ movie. In this movie, a 17-year-old boy ends up in a relationship with his male teacher. One of the cool things about this movie is that it doesn’t just track the start of their relationship, but it covers the decades that follow too.

Amar (2017)

This Spanish movie showcases how even the most passionate of love affairs can be fleeting. It demonstrates how once people gain maturity, they may not always want the same thing. It has the passion that 50 Shades of Grey does, but it is much more of an exploration of love and finding one’s place in the world.

The Last Seduction (1994)

The Last Seduction was a movie that almost earned an Oscar for one of the leads, although, sadly, due to the way it was released, she was disqualified. Still, it goes to show how exciting this Linda Fiorentino and Bill Pullman lead movie is. This movie features substance deals, being used for sexual gratification, the works. Obviously, don’t expect crazy hot sex scenes. This was a potential Oscar-nominated movie, but do expect a great deal of fun.

Bound (2015)

Charisma Carpenter and Daniel Baldwin lead the cast here. This movie is pretty close to Fifty Shades of Grey. A woman, unfulfilled in the world of sex, tries to fight off a guy who is attempting to seduce her. She has a boyfriend, after all. However, it isn’t long before they are engaging in BDSM, and she has awakened something completely new inside herself.

Venus in Fur (2013)

Roman Polanski directs this French drama. This movie features an actress auditioning for a role in a BDSM play (softcore) and eventually, this is brought into the real world. This is a movie that received critical acclaim, and, while some people avoid Roman Polanski movies, we believe this is one worth watching.
