Just watched The Nun, a horror movie related to Conjuring universe, my first impressions were that it is much better than The Nun from 2018, but can it live for one more sequel?

Or maybe this is the best they can do?

The plot connected nicely with the first movie, and details are provided throughout the movie so someone who hasn’t watched the first movie can easily understand everything.

Best example would be an old sister talking a story to a group of younger nuns about how Father Burke and young sister nun defeated the demon in the past.

Everything was smoother

I can remember the first movie, and all the mistakes they made while filming it. From candles burning on their own in the empty abbey, wide opened doors from which demon got out, to father Burke being buried alive in an empty grave, just to be set free minutes later and the grave was full of books.

Those things were just some of things where you could see that movies was made in a hurry, like they made it just to fill the gaps in the Conjuring universe.

But in this movie, you could see that they took their time, with introducing fans and first time viewers with the story to much more scary scenes. Like the one where Holy Water evaporated from the church just by Valak looking at it, to dark hallway scenes where Nun is lurking from the shadows.

They wanted us to anticipate action, and keep us on the edge, movie is full of jump scares.

Movie Effects Were Easier to Catch/Understand

In the last movie, the effect were not that much made with CGI, and the story was throwing as to every side of the movie, but in this part there were some great ones.

Great example is the magazine scene in The Nun 2, where sister Irene is looking at all those magazine in the street opening the right page and creating the picture of the demon in the shape of Nun.

More Stories to Follow

Beside the Nun, we had a new and rebellious sister Debra, played by Storm Reid, we had Maurice (Frenchie) , played by Jonas Bloquet, he got more screen time, which he deserved for sure.

Then we have a boarding school with a lot of interesting characters and stories to follow.

Saint Lucy story really connected well with sister Irene, played by marvelous Taissa Farmiga, and a truly interesting plot twist that I couldn’t expect.

Silly and Predictable Movie/Nun

But what is happening with the Nun? She is scary, I’m not denying that, and no one else could play her better than Bonnie Aarons, she is truly a master of disguise.

While all she is doing is killing and scaring people, why not including more of her story, who is the demon, why did the demon took a shape of the Nun and not something else?

Is this the best they can do with Nun? Is this the best and they saved it for last? So many questions are going through my mind.

Not to understand me wrong, I love the Idea of a demon in a shape/look of a Nun, it gives that Religion/Exorcist/Scary history page that everyone of us connected to.

But can they do better and are they going to try to do better with The Nun 3? The time will tell…
