Hope Sandoval, the enigmatic and distinctive voice behind the indie dream pop band Mazzy Star, has continued to make her mark in the music industry well beyond the band’s peak in the 1990s. After Mazzy Star’s initial success, particularly with their 1993 hit “Fade Into You,” the band experienced a quieter period, which was not necessarily a disappearance but rather a shift in focus. Sandoval and her bandmate David Roback, who unfortunately passed away in 2020 from metastatic cancer, never stopped creating music. They preferred to work at their own pace, focusing on crafting their songs privately. This approach resulted in a collection of unreleased material and eventually led to their reunion tour in 2013, followed by the release of “Seasons of Your Day”.

As a solo artist, Sandoval has been active in the music scene, collaborating with various artists and maintaining her distinctive style. She released a 7” vinyl single titled “Isn’t It True” for Record Store Day in 2016 with her band Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions. This band also released their third studio album, “Until the Hunter,” in 2016. Sandoval’s contributions to music have extended to collaborations with other artists, such as “The Spoils” with Massive Attack and covering “Big Boss Man” on Mercury Rev’s album in 2019.

Despite her ongoing contributions to music, Sandoval has remained a notably private and enigmatic figure. She is known for her aversion to the spotlight and maintaining a separation between her personal life and her craft. This is evident in her stage presence, where she often performs in near-darkness, and in her limited engagement with social media and public appearances. Sandoval’s reclusive nature and dedication to her artistic process have only added to her allure, making her a unique and respected figure in the music industry.

Sandoval’s most recent activities, as of 2021 and 2022, include duets like “I’ll Walk With You” with Psychic Ills’ Elizabeth Hart and her ongoing work with Mazzy Star. The latest EP from Mazzy Star, “Still,” features new tracks and an alternative version of “So Tonight That I Might See”.

In summary, Hope Sandoval has continued to contribute significantly to the music world, both as a solo artist and through collaborations, while maintaining her unique and private approach to her artistry.
