Early Life and Education

Lily Gladstone, born on August 2, 1986, is an American actress of Piegan Blackfeet, Nez Perce, and European heritage. Raised in Browning and East Glacier, Montana, on the reservation of the Blackfeet Nation, Gladstone’s diverse background has significantly influenced her career and artistic choices. Her early inspiration to act came from a desire to portray an Ewok, kindled by watching “Return of the Jedi” at the age of 5. Moving to Seattle during her middle school years, she engaged in theatre, leading to roles in student films. Gladstone graduated from Mountlake Terrace High School in Washington and later from the University of Montana with a BFA in Acting/Directing and a minor in Native American Studies.

Breakthrough in Film

Gladstone’s film debut was in “Jimmy P: Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian” (2012). She gained recognition in Kelly Reichardt’s “Certain Women” (2016), earning accolades for her portrayal of Jamie, a rancher. This role brought her the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actress and nominations for the Independent Spirit Award and Gotham Independent Film Award. Her collaboration with Reichardt continued in “First Cow” (2019).
