Netflix’s ambitious venture into the realm of live-action anime adaptations continues with the much-anticipated “One Piece.”

With a budget that reflects its grandeur, the series is set to be one of the streaming giant’s most significant investments. Each of the eight episodes comes with a staggering price tag of $17 million, outstripping even the lavish spending on HBO’s fantasy behemoth, “Game of Thrones.”

For context, the official German Netflix site, Netflixwoche, revealed that “Game of Thrones” had an approximate budget of $14.79 million per episode. This means that the entire expenditure for the final season of “Game of Thrones,” which was rumored to be around $90 million and left many fans divided over its conclusion, is comparable to just a few episodes of the “One Piece” adaptation.

The series, helmed by showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, is based on Eiichiro Oda’s renowned manga, which was transformed into a cherished anime in 1999. Iñaki Godoy stars as the iconic Monkey D. Luffy, leading viewers on his epic quest to secure the legendary treasure. As fans of the original anime series, which spans over a thousand episodes, eagerly tune in, they will find that Netflix’s version, though vast in its narrative, will only begin to explore the expansive world of “One Piece.”

For those eager to embark on this new journey with Luffy and his crew, “One Piece” live-action is now available for streaming exclusively on Netflix.
