Jinbe, also known as the “Knight of the Sea,” is a whale shark fish-man and the helmsman of the Straw Hat Pirates. He is a powerful master of Fish-Man Karate and dreams of fulfilling his former captain Fisher Tiger’s wish for coexistence and equality between humans and fish-men. Jinbe is a character of great significance in the One Piece series, and this article aims to explore various facets of his character.

Chapter and Episode Introduced

Jinbe was introduced in Chapter 528 of the One Piece manga. He made his debut in the anime in Episode 430.

Physical Appearance

Jinbe is a large blue whale shark fish-man and the tallest member of the Straw Hat Pirates. He has a stocky build, similar to that of a sumo wrestler, and a face that resembles various Japanese demons such as the oni. He has long, two-toned black hair, with two long stripes colored gold in the manga and white in the anime. Jinbe also has a lightning-shaped scar over his left eye, which he obtained sometime between Otohime’s assassination and meeting Ace.

Personality and Abilities

Jinbe is a character of strong moral fiber and courage. He is a master of Fish-Man Karate and is proficient in both Busoshoku and Kenbunshoku Haki. His dream is to fulfill his former captain Fisher Tiger’s dying wish of coexistence and equality between humans and fish-men. He was a member of the Sun Pirates and eventually became its second captain after the death of Fisher Tiger.

Bounty

Jinbe first gained a bounty of 76,000,000 Berries due to his membership in the Sun Pirates. His bounty later increased to 250,000,000 Berries after becoming the new captain of the Sun Pirates. Upon resigning his position as a Warlord during the Summit War of Marineford, his bounty was reinstated at 438,000,000 Berries. Following the Raid on Onigashima, his bounty was further increased to 1,100,000,000 Berries.

Special Note

Jinbe befriended Monkey D. Luffy prior to and during the Summit War of Marineford. Two years later, he allied with Luffy and his crew to prevent the New Fish-Man Pirates’ coup d’état against the Ryugu Kingdom’s Neptune Royal Family. Luffy invited him to join the Straw Hat Pirates, but Jinbe deferred until severing ties with Big Mom during the Whole Cake Island Arc. He officially joined the Straw Hat Pirates during the Wano Country Arc.
