The Heath House stands as a striking example of Gothic Revival architecture, nestled near the village of Tean in Staffordshire, England. Its origins trace back to 1836, when it was initially constructed for John Burton Philips, a prominent figure in J. & N. Philips textiles and a former High Sheriff of Staffordshire, and his wife, Joanna. However, the Philips family’s connection with the estate dates back to the 1680s, with the present house replacing an earlier Georgian mansion. Throughout its storied history, The Heath House has played host to a roster of distinguished guests, including the renowned Florence Nightingale, who sought solace within its walls after the tumult of the Crimean War.

During World War II, The Heath House took on a new role when it was requisitioned for the Red Cross, serving as an auxiliary hospital for military personnel. Following the war’s end, the property was returned to the Philips family, bearing witness to the passage of time and the evolving narratives of its inhabitants.

In the years spanning March 2010 to September 2011, The Heath House found itself in the spotlight through a Channel 4 television program led by hotelier Ruth Watson. This exposure was part of her Country House Rescue series, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs faced by historic country estates.

Subsequently, on 19 January 2011, the estate took center stage once more, featuring as one of four distinct houses showcased on the ITV1 television show May The Best House Win. Family representative Ben Philips took on the role of guide, offering guests a glimpse into the grandeur and history held within The Heath House’s walls.
