What Happened to Jeremy Renner?

Jeremy Renner, the talented actor known for his roles in films such as “The Hurt Locker” and “The Avengers,” has been relatively quiet in recent years. Fans have been wondering what happened to this once-prominent Hollywood star. In this article, we will explore the ups and downs of Renner’s career and try to uncover the reasons behind his apparent disappearance from the spotlight.

Renner’s rise to fame began in the early 2000s when he started gaining recognition for his performances in independent films like “Dahmer” and “Neo Ned.” His breakthrough came in 2008 with his portrayal of Sergeant William James in “The Hurt Locker,” a critically acclaimed war drama that won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Renner’s intense and nuanced performance earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, catapulting him into the mainstream.

Following the success of “The Hurt Locker,” Renner continued to impress audiences with his versatility and range. He appeared in a variety of genres, from action films like “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” to dramas like “The Town” and “American Hustle.” Renner’s ability to seamlessly transition between different roles showcased his talent and solidified his status as a sought-after actor in Hollywood.

However, despite his early success, Renner’s career took a hit in 2015 with the release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” While the film was a box office success, Renner’s character, Hawkeye, received mixed reviews from both critics and fans. Some felt that Hawkeye was overshadowed by the other Avengers, leading to a decrease in Renner’s popularity. Additionally, the film’s director, Joss Whedon, faced backlash for his portrayal of the character, which may have indirectly affected Renner’s reputation.

In the years following “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Renner’s career seemed to lose momentum. He appeared in several films, including “Arrival” and “Wind River,” which received critical acclaim, but failed to generate the same level of buzz as his earlier works. Renner also faced personal challenges during this time, including a highly publicized divorce and custody battle, which may have contributed to his decreased visibility in the industry.

Another factor that may have impacted Renner’s career is the rise of other actors in the industry. With the emergence of new talent and the increasing popularity of streaming platforms, Hollywood has become more competitive than ever. Renner’s absence from major blockbuster franchises and lack of high-profile roles may have made it difficult for him to stand out among his peers.

On the 1st of January 2023, Renner experienced a severe accident involving his Sno-Cat, a substantial snow plow weighing a minimum of 14,330 pounds, while attempting to assist his 27-year-old nephew, Alex Fries, in extricating a pickup truck stuck in the snow.

Renner, after exiting his Sno-Cat to assess Fries’ situation, found himself in peril as the vehicle continued its motion. He was trapped beneath the plow’s tread in his effort to prevent it from colliding with Fries.

ABC News acquired footage in which Fries can be heard informing law enforcement, “He disembarked to convey something to me, and that’s when it advanced towards me, with great momentum.”

“He endeavored to mount it, to get into the [snow plow], and it pulled him underneath.”

In the captured video, a deputy identifies Renner’s hat located under the snow plow.

Following the mishap, Renner was admitted to the hospital, suffering from blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries, and he disclosed that he sustained fractures in over 30 bones. Post-incident, the actor has been keeping his followers informed about his recovery journey through social media, sharing a clip of his physical therapy session in February, captioned “Whatever it takes,” referencing “Avengers: Endgame.”

In a conversation with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, Renner delved into his recuperation process, expressing that he retains vivid memories of the pain: “I remained conscious throughout the entire ordeal. It felt precisely as one would envision.”
